For over 20 years, West Contra Costa voters have supported locally controlled funding for our public schools. Measure V continues that commitment, protecting vital programs for students while maintaining the same tax rate.
Our history
A commitment our community made in 2004, and has kept ever since
Since 2004, West Contra Costa voters have supported locally-controlled funding for our public schools. That funding does not come from the state or federal government. It stays right here, decided by our community, for our students.
2004
Measure B passes with a 70.6% YES vote
West Contra Costa voters approved locally-controlled parcel funding for the first time, investing in classrooms, staff, and student programs across the district.
2008
Measure D renews the commitment, 79.6% YES
West Contra Costa voters renewed their commitment by passing Measure D with a 79.6% YES vote.
2012
Measure G renews the commitment, 75.6% YES
West Contra Costa voters again renewed their support by passing Measure G with a 75.6% YES vote.
2016
Measure T renews the commitment, 75% YES
West Contra Costa voters again renewed their support by passing Measure T with a 75% YES vote.
2026
Measure V continues the commitment
Measure V renews this local funding so our schools do not lose the resources our community has relied on for over twenty years.
The facts
What Measure V means for our community
Not a new tax.
Measure V renews an existing local education parcel tax at the same rate of 7.2 cents per square foot of building area. Voters have approved this local funding three times since 2004.
$10.2 million annually.
Measure V will provide approximately $10.2 million each year to support West Contra Costa students and schools.
Every cent stays local.
Measure V funds stay in West Contra Costa schools. The state and federal government cannot take away this funding.
Not a forever tax.
Measure V lasts for 9 years and then automatically expires. It cannot be renewed without another vote of the community.
Exemptions available.
Exemptions are available. Seniors and eligible disabled individuals may qualify for an exemption. Applications are available through WCCUSD.
Where the funding goes
Measure V will fund the following:
Core academics
Protecting core academic programs, including reading, writing, math, and science.
Qualified teachers
Attracting and retaining qualified teachers.
STEM instruction
Maintaining science, technology, engineering, and math instruction, including supporting lab materials and activities.
Career and technical training
Providing career and technical training to make sure students are ready for careers in the changing economy.
Mental health and counseling
Maintaining mental health services and counseling services to support student success.
Athletics
Supporting athletic programs that give students opportunities to participate, compete, and succeed.
